ICC World Cup 2019: Saqlain Mushtaq to Join England Camp to Help the Spinners

England has roped in the services of former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq as a spin bowling consultant for the upcoming World cup which is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May.

Saqlain Mushtaq is regarded as one of the finest spinners of his time and is the inventor of the famous doosra. The off-spinner had earlier worked with England as a spin bowling consultant for two years. However, his contract got expired earlier in the year. Mushtaq is currently in Pakistan and was contacted very recently by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

“I got a call from the ECB last week, requesting me to join the team during the World Cup and help out the spinners during the tournament,” Saqlain told Sportstar late on Wednesday.

“I have worked with the team in the past and know all the players. World Cup being a big tournament, I will try and help them as much as I can,” Saqlain added.

Saqlain is expected to join the England team on 30th May the day when they begin the World cup campaign against Australia. He is expected to work with the England team for a couple of weeks depending on as and when they require his services. 

Saqlain Mushtaq had played an important role in the resurgence of the English spin department. The off-spinner who played 49 Tests and 167 ODI s for Pakistan has a good relationship with the England spinners and hence he was called back. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid also heaped praises on him. Hence ECB decided to bring him back for the showpiece event.
