ICC World Cup 2019: Sarfraz Nawaz Wants PM Imran Khan to Take Strict Action against Pakistan Team
Former Pakistan paceman Sarfraz Nawaz had urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to take strict action against Sarfraz Ahmed-led side apart from the management following Pakistan failure to secure their place in the top four during the recently held ICC World Cup 2019.
Nawaz, who has been hailed for inventing the reverse swing had put the onus on the 1992 World Cup-winning skipper Imran in a bid to bring stability in the Pakistan cricket. Also, Imran, as a PM, is serving as the patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“In Pakistan, people are still looking at the PCB and Imran Khan, who is not only the prime minister and PCB’s patron. But also one of the best captains the cricket world had ever witnessed to take some action against the responsible. The PM should act now and send selection committee, coaches and all the flops home,” Nawaz told The Nation.
The 70-year-old Lahore-born cricketer had further called upon the country’s PM to take action against the players who’re responsible for the failure in the ICC World Cup.
Earlier, Men in Green had finished fifth in the league stage fixtures of the ODI showpiece.
They claimed 11 points after winning five matches.
Also, they bagged a point in a rain-hit encounter against Sri Lanka which eventually saw them sitting at par with runners-up New Zealand. However, Pakistan had to face an exit based on a poor net run-rate.
While lashing out at the team management, Sarfraz said they’re not accepting their mistakes.
“People who have dignity and understand responsibility themselves step down, but it does not happen in Pakistan. I was expecting resignations from selection committee, team management and COO Subhan Ahmed after highly dismal performance of the national team but no one is ready to accept the responsibility,” Nawaz was quoted as saying by The Nation.
By going at Pakistan performance, they had done exceedingly well in the second half of the World Cup after bagging just three points when they faced India at the Old Trafford in Manchester on June 16.
There on, they faced criticism for losing against India after making a mess against Australia to lose that game by 41 runs.
Furthermore, their backs were against the wall. However, they put up a grand show by winning four back-to-back group stage fixtures to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
Besides, they eventually managed a win against Bangladesh at Lord’s. But couldn’t have enough to improve their net run-rate to pip the Kiwis.
Mickey Arthur backs his wards at the ICC World Cup 2019:
In between, Sarfaraz and head coach Mickey Arthur had also extended an apology to their fans. Also, the board had hailed their effort.
Nawaz had deemed Pakistan’s performance at the World Cup as ‘pathetic’ and ‘below average’. He also made a valid point that how come players were expecting favours from other teams. Nawaz had also blasted the former players for pointing fingers at the other teams.
“I am surprised how the PCB and their blue-eyed are appreciating the Pakistan team’s performance in the World Cup. It was totally pathetic and below average. How on earth was the Pakistan team expecting favours from other teams? Why did they blame India, New Zealand and others? Why did they not earn a place in the semi-finals themselves?,” Nawaz concluded.
Following their return to Pakistan, players have addressed media on different occasions. Thus, it even saw them admitting that they could have delivered better.
