ICC World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan And Co Knocks Down Australia, Twitter Reacts
Jun 10, 2019 at 11:39 AM
Yet another good day at the office for the Indian National Cricket Team. They thrashed the Australian with ease in all sections of the game to bag the second win of the tournament. The blistering century from Shikhar Dhawan and the decent knocks from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli helped India to put a massive total, which was defended brilliantly by the bowlers.
Initially, it was the Indian team skipper Virat Kohli, who won the toss, opted to bat first. Justifying the toss decision, the openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started things in a flashy mode by adding 127 runs for the first wicket.
Shikhar Dhawan scored 117:
The right-handed Rohit Sharma walked back with 57 runs while Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli continued the onslaught. During the course, Shikhar Dhawan brought up his century and added extra 17 runs to his hundred before being dismissed to Mitchell Starc.
It was carried by Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. The latter, in particular, went after the Australian attack to give the perfect boost for the team. On the other hand, Virat Kohli was at his best, who scored 82 runs to his name. The cameo knock from MS Dhoni, in the end, helped India reach 352 runs on the board.
In reply, the Australian team started things cautiously. David Warner, in particular, played very slowly while Aaron Finch tried to settle in before going for the shots. Just when they started going after Indians, the run-out saw Finch walking back to the hut.
After adding 72 runs, David Warner also walked back. Meanwhile, Smith and Khawaja once again settled things in the middle but Bumrah gave a breakthrough. Maxwell tried to put Indians under pressure but the double-wicket over of Bhuvneshwar Kumar changed the complexion of the game.

In the end, Alex Carey fought hard but it was too much for him to get it for the team. All in all, it was yet another good show from the Indians.

Virat Kohli asked fans to stop chants of "cheater cheater" directed at Steve Smith who was fielding at the boundary.
He asked them to clap for him instead. Lovely sportsmanship by King Kohli. 👏👌🙏 #INDvAUS #CWC19 #INDvsAUS pic.twitter.com/M1W6Krr6DG

Game. Set. Match.
Today Dhawan has contributed even when he’s not fielding….Super catch by Jadeja. His substitute. 👏🤗 #IndvAus #Maxwell #CWC19— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) June 9, 2019
1/3 of the #CWC done….still waiting for a reasonable total to be successfully chased down.
Saying it again…Win-the-toss-bat-first kind of tournament #CWC19 #IndvAus— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) June 9, 2019
Steve Smith LBW 😱 Aisa Bhi Hota Hai??? 🤗
Add to that Stoinis dismissed for a duck 🦆
Kumar has turned the game on its head. #IndvAus #CWC19— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) June 9, 2019
Jadeja takes the most important catch of the match without even playing the match. 'Sir' Jadeja for a reason. #INDvAUS

So 15 overs to go and Bumrah will bowl 6 of those and the fifth bowler has bowled out. I think that's very well planned by Virat and Team #IndvAus

Don't underestimate the importance of the Dhawan innings. Allowed Rohit and Kohli to ease themselves in and set the scene for Pandya.

Top win for India. Batsmen provided a safe total and in intervals, which is important to recognise, the bowling was excellent. This is a powerful performance and reminiscent of the start in 2015.
