ICC World Cup 2019: Shoaib Akhtar Predicts Winner In India vs Australia Clash
Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar predicts India will have an upper hand over their rivals Australia on Sunday. Australia started their world cup on a positive note winning their first two games. However, in India they are set to face their biggest tussle in the tournament so far.
Although, Australia boasts an impeccable record over India in world cups, the contest is dubbed as an exciting one. But Shoaib Akhtar believes the balance in Indian bowling should see India as favorites in the game against Australia.
India are definitely a well rounded side compared to Australia. But Australia possess the best bowling lineup in World Cup. However, the battle between India’s top order and Australian pacers will be the key for both teams’ winning chances.
“India has a far better chance not because of I am just saying but I think the balance of the bowling lies with India. They have spinners, they have good fast bowlers,” Shoaib Akhtar said.
Shoaib Akhtar Wants Mohammad Shami Against Australia
The Pakistani legend asked India to get Mohammed Shami into the team. He also thinks Indian top order holds the key for their winning chances against Australia.
He reckons in form Rohit Sharma should bat deep down and continue like he did against South Africa. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is also keen to be amongst runs after getting out cheaply against South Africa.
“I want Shami to be in. I want the pace to be in. At the same time, I think Indian batters, the first four batters, whenever they get runs the history tells us they win matches.
“Rohit Sharma goes deep down to the order and he gets runs and Indian team gets a proper platform. At the same time, him, Virat Kohli and others make a big score.”
Shoaib Akhtar also believes that Indian team has more ammunition in their bowling attack. He thinks India are superior with swing. Also, he revealed Indian spinners are far superior to their Australian counterparts. But he once again iterated the importance of Mohammad Shami’s inclusion into the team.
“India has more ammunition when it comes to swing when it comes to bowling when it comes to taking up the pressure. So, I think the pressure isn’t going to be on Indians tomorrow, it is going to be on Australians.
“I think India is going into this match as favourites because they have superior spinners than the Australians and with Shami’s addition they will become unbeatable,” he added.

India are set to take on Australia at The Oval on Sunday. The last time the two teams met in a World Cup in 1999 at The Oval, Australia won the game with 77 runs margin. Glenn McGrath was the star performer back then. However, India will look to bounce back this summer after losing to Australia in 2015 world cup as well.
