It has been learnt from the sources that, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday (May 7) has allowed the families of distinct players – to join the World Cup-bound players in the United Kingdom (UK). The ICC World Cup 2019 will get underway on May 30 in London.

According to the Lankan media, former skipper Angelo Mathews is among the list of five players who sought permission from the national cricket board, for allowing their family members with the UK-bound team.

Apart from Mathews, Isuru Udana, Suranga Lakmal, Milinda Siriwardana and Jeevan Mendis have also asked for permission on allowing their family members to join the World Cup-bound squad.

However, before approving the request, it has been maintained that the families could join the coveted squad after May 23. Interestingly, it is pertinent to mention that May 23 has also been ICC’s due deadline for the teams to name any forced change in their 15-member coveted squad.

“They will be allowed to stay till Sri Lanka “remains” in the World Cup stage i.e. if the team reaches to the final, they will be allowed to keep them till end. If not, they can extend the stay at their own costs”, the source revealed according to the Deccan Chronicle.

As per the reliable report, apart from the coaching staff, more players would likely request for the same reason.

On Monday (May 6) the team members apart from the support staff were involved in religious observance. Also, the foreign staff was involved in the religious gathering before leaving via Dubai on the morning of May 7.

In a bid to prepare for the twelfth edition of the World Cup, the Lions will take on Scotland in the two-match ODI series. The ODI fixtures will be held on May 18 and May 21 respectively in Edinburgh.

With the team expected to make a return, the reports suggested that at least two policemen will accompany the team after the completion of their visas.

Meanwhile, with ICC World Cup 2019 commencing from May 30, Sri Lanka will face the Black Caps in Cardiff on June 1st.
