ICC World Cup 2019: Sourav Ganguly Caution India Ahead of Pakistan Match
Former skipper Sourav Ganguly gave Team India advice ahead of Pakistan game. Both India and Pakistan will play against each other on Sunday at Old Trafford, Manchester.
India holds a major advantage both in terms of history and current team quality. The Men in Blue lead 6-0 against Pakistan so far in ICC World Cup matches. On the other hand, the current team is one of the best in the world. They are rightfully considered title favorites after their emphatic wins against South Africa and Australia.
But Ganguly who led India to a historic win against Pakistan in World Cup 2003, believes the team should not go into the team thinking as favorites. The former skipper reminded that India lost in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final after thinking themselves as favorites.
However, Pakistan beat them hands down with a 180 run victory. It was a shock to the cricket fans but Ganguly think Sunday’s game will be a treat to the fans. India will look to extend their lead against Pakistan in the world cups. But Pakistan will look to open a new chapter in the rivalry with their first ever win against India across world cups.
“India needs to be very careful, don’t go into this game thinking they are the favourites. I think they did that the last time in 2017 in the ICC Champions Trophy finals and Pakistan beat them hands down. It’s going to be a great game of cricket,” commented Ganguly as an expert for Star Sports ahead of the game.
India are set to take on Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday.
However, the weather forecast seems to be a worry for both officials and players alike.
But he threw his weight behind the current team. The record scorer thinks the current Indian team will not take Pakistan lightly by any means.
“Pakistan has always been unpredictable, and they are a dangerous side – so there is no way the Indian team is going to take them lightly. Every step that the Indian team takes forward, we would want to be 100% sure of what we are doing, and it is well thought and well planned,” he said.
It is true that Pakistan are the most dangerous side in the tournament. Their unpredictability is causing a concern for all the opposition teams. On their day, they could beat any side in the world comprehensively.
But they could go complete opposite and get demolished by opponents again. This was already proved during their performances against West Indies and hosts England. After getting demolished by West Indies, Pakistan managed a very good win against England. All in all, the game between India and Pakistan will once again be a blockbuster.
