ICC World Cup 2019: Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman Give A Contrasting Opinion On MS Dhoni’s Strike Rate
Whenever MS Dhoni comes to the middle, the main area of concern has been his strike rotation. While few experts felt that MS Dhoni is lacking intent, the other experts felt that the ex-skipper of India is playing as per the conditions of the game. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman reveal their opinions.
Dhoni has been criticised for his not-so-impressive strike rate in World Cup 2019. The wicketkeeper-batsman hit a 28-ball 52 and put pressure on the rest of the Indian batsmen in India’s close win over Afghanistan on Saturday.
Against the West Indies on Thursday, Dhoni began slow but made sure he accelerated towards the end to finish with 56 from 61 balls. Further, he got accolades from the skipper and the team management for his brilliant knock in the death.
You expect more from the experienced player – VVS Laxman
VVS Laxman joined Sachin Tendulkar to criticize Dhoni for his lack of intent in the middle overs. The former Indian batsman felt that MS Dhoni has got the ability to play big strokes but failing to display the same. He wants Dhoni to play freely in the middle.
“No doubt Dhoni is having problems to rotate the strike in the middle overs. He appears to be fine against seamers but certainly not against the spinners. Now you have to ask the question is Dhoni showing the right intent? For me, he is perhaps not. You expect so much more from an experienced player like Dhoni, who has the ability to score quickly,” Laxman told the official broadcasters during the mid-match show on Thursday.
MS Dhoni will definitely get success – Sourav Ganguly
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly continued to back Dhoni, saying that the former India captain has to be accepted the way he is. Sourav Ganguly would like to wait before passing a statement, as he feels that everyone knew what he is capable of doing.
“I would like to wait before passing a statement on how well he has played, especially his strike rate, because he has the ability to hit the boundaries and play differently. So, let’s not get into MS Dhoni so quickly in this competition yet, because his experience, the quality and the ability he has, he will definitely succeed,” Sourav Ganguly said.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for MS Dhoni in the remaining few games. Without any ray of a doubt, the knocks played by Dhoni in both the games have helped the Indian team to get a decent total on the board.
