Sri Lanka has suffered yet another blow ahead of the 2019 World Cup as their opener Avishka Fernando sustained an injury during the warm-up clash against South Africa at Cardiff today. He has suffered an ankle injury. The opening batsman slipped while fielding during South Africa’s batting. He landed awkwardly on his side and the physios came rushing out. He had to be eventually taken in a stretcher and it looks a worry for the Lankans.
He was unable to walk despite receiving treatment but required a stretcher to be taken off the field. The Lankans are currently playing against the Proteas in the warm-up clash and is slated to take on New Zealand in their opening clash on 1st June.
Sri Lanka will be one of the underdogs for the tournament and their motto will be to win as many matches. They have serious issues to solve and it is expected to be a difficult tournament for them. They don’t have a settled side which will definitely keep them worried in the showpiece event. The Islanders will be led by Dimuth Karunaratne who last played a ODI in the 2015 World Cup. Strange but this is how it goes.
