ICC World Cup 2019: Steve Smith Helps Australia To 223, Twitter Reacts
Yet another low-scoring game greets the semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019. The Superb bowling effort from the England bowlers and the stunning knock from the ex-skipper Steve Smith helped the Australian team to post a moderate total on the board.
Initially, it was Aaron Finch, who won the toss, elected to bat first. They haven’t got the start, which they wanted, as Jofra Archer removes Aaron Finch off his first ball. David Warner looked in decent nick with brilliant fours upfront but failed to convert his start into a big one.
Steve Smith-Alex Carey added 103-run partnership:
The duo went for cheap scores while Peter Handscomb’s return to Australian team didn’t go as planned. Chris Woakes was the wrecker-in-chief with the new ball while Steve Smith delivered the much-needed partnership for the team alongside Alex Carey, who played with an injured-Chin.
Glenn Maxwell smashed a couple of boundaries for the team and looked decent enough to bring a good partnership for the team. But, the knuckle delivery from Jofra Archer saw Maxwell walking back while Pat Cummins followed him in a quick time.
Despite wickets falling at the other end, Steve Smith batted brilliantly to tickle the scorecard with occasional boundaries. Mitchell Starc also played a decent knock, in the end, to help his side reach a competitive total.
Steve Smith scored a brilliant 85 before Jos Buttler ran him out at the non-striker end. For England, all the bowlers delivered the goods.
Here are a few tweets:
Excellent presence of mind from Alex Carey to catch his helmet and not allow it to fall on the stumps. He would have been hit-wicket if helmet had hit the stumps.
Immediately, he even waved hands towards dressing room for help. #EngvAus

Trying not to be harsh.. but why didn’t Smith or Dhoni dive when there was a likelihood of a runout?
a dive can make you an extra foot.. #difference
