Well, the defending champions have shown what they are capable of doing by becoming the first team to reach the semifinals of the tournament. At once, they were nowhere near the favourites tag but they have played like an example to reach the next level. Regarding the same, Steve Waugh showers words of praise on Aaron Finch-led side.
Former Australian captain and 1999 World Cup winner, Steve Waugh lauded Australia’s performance against England while stating that the team is gathering confidence and momentum at the right time.
It was a commanding victory – Steve Waugh
Speaking of Australia’s campaign, Steve Waugh quoted that the team is pretty much in a positive state. Especially, after the win against England. He believes that the team is peaking at the right time, which is a great sign for Australia.

“Without doubt, this was a commanding performance by a team. They are gathering confidence and momentum at exactly the right time,” Waugh wrote in a column for the International Cricket Council.
Batsman technic will be tested:
After heroics with the bat, Australia also looked dangerous with the ball against England on Tuesday, with Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff taking nine wickets between them while recalled offspinner Nathan Lyon kept the run rate down.

Further, he congratulated the selectors for trusting Jason Behrendorff to pick in the 15-member squad. Waugh showered words of praise on the young lad for delivering the goods when it mattered the most.
“The Australian selectors must be congratulated for the bold selection of Jason Behrendorff. And also, the faith they showed in presenting him with the new ball. His five-wicket haul was not only significant for its impact on the match. But for his ability to swing it in conjunction with Mitchell Starc., It will put all future batsman on notice that their techniques will be forensically examined,” Waugh further added.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Australia in the remaining fixtures. So far, they have been brilliant in all departments of the game.
