ICC World Cup 2019: This is not the end of the road for Rishabh Pant, Says Sourav Ganguly
Almost two weeks have passed the selectors have announced the Indian National Cricket team for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. But there has been a lot of speculations over it with Ambati Rayudu and Rishabh Pant failing to make the cut. And now that Pant has made the performance do the talking, his mentor in the Delhi Capitals, Sourav Ganguly feels this is not the end of the road for the young cricketer.
The selection panel headed by MSK Prasad opined that Dinesh Karthik got a nod over Rishabh Pant due to his better wicket-keeping skills. Many tipped Pant as one of the favourites to be in the final 15 with his aggressive style of batting. Now that he has to wait for another four years to fulfill his dream, Pant has started to build the road. Rishabh Pant played a match-winning knock of 78 runs off 36 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 22 (Monday).
That knock helped Delhi Capitals claim the top spot for a few hours before Chennai Super Kings reclaimed it back. However, the knock earned praise from all-round and it looks like Rishabh Pant has put his world cup snub behind. Sourav Ganguly, who is watching Pant from close quarters hailed the young cricketer and said that there is nothing to worry about. The former India skipper also feels with age by his side, Pant will definitely play the next World Cup.
“Pant is a fantastic player. He is just 21 years old so there is nothing to worry,” Sourav Ganguly said on Wednesday.
Not the end of road: Ganguly
Meanwhile, the selectors have added Rishabh Pant as the standby for the marquee event. He along with Ambati Rayudu, Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel, and Navdeep Saini are the five standbys named by BCCI. Sourav Ganguly feels there is no point talking about the selection. He also believes that this is not the end of the road for the 21-year-old Pant.
“There is no point talking about it. This is not the end of the road for him. He is only 21 years of age. I always stay with him and the players,” Ganguly added.
In conclusion, Sourav Ganguly praised MS Dhoni calling him a great player and also backed Kolkata Knight Riders to comeback stronger who have now lost five games on a trot.
