Finally, one of the headaches for the Indian National Cricket Team likely to reduce with the all-rounder Vijay Shankar passing the fitness Test with flying colours. The flamboyant cricketer from Tamil Nadu injured his Toe ahead of the game but recovered in quick time to join the playing XI.
There were speculations going on that Shankar won’t make it to the playing XI against Afghanistan following the blow, However, Vijay Shankar stated that he is doing fine and nothing is serious about the blow.
I have got a lot better:
The Indian all-rounder, speaking to the press reporters, quoted that he is doing fine enough to play the game. Further, he is hopeful of retaining his place in the playing XI for Afghanistan clash. Especially, after the decent performance against Pakistan team.
“I’ve got a lot better. Hopefully, I’ll be able to play,” Shankar said.
Vijay Shankar speaks on Facing Jasprit Bumrah in Nets:
Shankar stated that you always expect those toe-crushing yorkers when a batter is facing someone like Jasprit Bumrah while adding despite knowing such things, batters do miss those yorkers and get hit.
”Actually, when you play someone like Bumrah, you always expect that. Still, sometimes we do miss that,” he smiled when asked if he expected a delivery like that.”
Shankar underwent a short fitness test on Friday. The all-rounder was seen jogging around as physio Patrick Farhart and trainer Shankar Basu analysed his condition.
Shankar is expected to start in the match against Afghanistan. But if the team management feels he is not unfit then it might shift to new addition Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik for the much-talked-about number four spot.
However, it will be interesting to see whom Team India picks if Shankar remains unfit. Rishabh Pant brings flamboyancy and X factor with his presence. Whereas, Dinesh Karthik brings experience. Another option available to the Men in Blue is Ravindra Jadeja. However, his inclusion will complicate the team balance.
