ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli Asserts India Won’t Show Any Complacency Against Afghanistan
Team India skipper Virat Kohli must be satisfied with the team’s performance so far at the ICC World Cup. The Men in Blue have already thrashed South Africa, Australia and their arch-rivals Pakistan in the ODI showpiece. Meanwhile, Kohli has made it clear that they won’t take next opponents Afghanistan lightly in their World Cup fixture in Southampton.
The World No.2 ODI team India has put up a grand show at the twelfth edition of the World Cup. Kohli conceded that they’re happy to see themselves placed at the second position on the World Cup points table.
The Men in Blue have managed seven points in four matches which include a point from their washed out game in Trent Bridge against New Zealand.
On the other hand, Afghanistan has already lost their five matches at the World with the latest loss coming against World Cup hosts and favourites England in Manchester.
India not to take Afghanistan light at the ICC World Cup 2019:
The batting giant Kohli reckoned that players have had done their job by shouldering responsibility.
Also, he believes everyone has chipped in with their contribution in a bid to dominate opposition at the ODI showpiece.
“We’re were happy where we stand as a team. Even when we are in the dressing room, we can see each one of us are fulfilling our roles to perfection,” Kohli told legendary Wasim Akram for the world cricket governing body, ICC.
With Kohli focused on continuing the winning momentum, Kohli also admitted the fact that it’s hard to gain impetus in such a mega event. He further cited they have a quality time to recover while adding they’re bound to execute their plans to perfection at the quadrennial event.
“For sure (take Afghanistan seriously). It’s very difficult to gain momentum in a tournament like the World Cup. We want to win every game we play. And the fact that we have long gaps between each game.. that helps a lot. We have time to recover, regroup and then the motivation is back again. No game is easy in this World Cup. We have to be professional and execute our plans well,” Kohli added.
Men in Blue relish ICC World Cup 2019 challenge:
In conclusion, Kohli maintained that they had a lot of fun after landing in the United Kingdom (UK). He followed it by saying it’s also an important aspect when it comes to such extended tourney.
“Our first decision when we came here (in England) was to have a lot of fun because it’s a long tournament and it’s important to enjoy every day. Off the field, we find time to crack jokes even in the practice session,” Kohli concluded.
India will play Afghanistan on June 22 in their fifth World Cup game.
