India skipper Virat Kohli has extended his support to former skipper MS Dhoni who has struggled to score runs at quick rate after their convincing win over West Indies. Meanwhile, the Men in Blues progressed to the semifinal with a 125-run runs victory at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Kohli backs struggling Dhoni

West Indies were upto the mark after Virat Kohli opted to bat first. Rohit Sharma fell early of an inswinger from Kemar Roach. But KL Rahul and Virat Kohli helped the side build momentum. But the team from the Caribbean Islands bounced back with three quick wickets. Kohli stood tall to score his fourth consecutive fifty in this World Cup. Although he failed to cross the three-figure mark getting out for 72, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya’s late contribution helped India post 268 runs – a challenging total on the board.

While many thought, India were 20-30 runs short, the bowlers stood up to the occasion to restrict West Indies 143 runs, thus securing a 125 runs victory. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers returning with four wickets. He starred with the new ball and in the death overs while Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah dominated the middle overs.

Meanwhile, it is India’s middle order, which will keep them thinking ahead of their next game against England. MS Dhoni has struggled to get going in the World Cup, but Virat Kohli didn’t seem worried at all and supported the veteran cricketer.

“He looks what he wants to do, and anybody can have off-days. When he has off-days, everybody starts talking. We back him, and the best thing is when you need extra 15-20 runs in the end, he does that well. He knows how to bat with the tail. His experience, eight out of 10 times, works for us,” Kohli said at the end of the game.

Dhoni is a legend: Kohli

Furthermore, Virat Kohli added that MS Dhoni is a legend and sounded hopeful that he will continue to play more such knocks. Kohli admitted that they were not in the right track but found ways to win. He also added that they have confidence with them of winning from any situations.

“He’s a legend for us, and hopefully, he’ll continue. The last two games, things haven’t gone as we thought it would, but we’ve found ways of winning. We feel we can win from any situation,” he concluded.
