The injury to Shikhar Dhawan is certainly a major blow for the Virat Kohli-led Indian National Cricket team. But, the management would like to leap the hurdle by giving him proper rest in order to see him fit for the Semifinals of the tournament.
Shikhar Dhawan is currently with physio Patrick Farhat as Team India wants the opener to be fit before the business end of the tournament. A final call on his availability is likely to be taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in the next few days.
There is no denying to the fact that the Indian team has got a lot of plans designed for Shikhar Dhawan in the ongoing World Cup. The injury is a dent for the team, as they need to make a quick change to their plans by changing the batting order.
Shikhar Dhawan will be available at a later stage – Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, speaking of Shikhar Dhawan injury, the skipper Virat Kohli quoted that the team is hoping Shikhar Dhawan gets fit in a quick time. He is sure that the Indian opener would be active for the Semifinals of the tournament.
“Hopefully, the injury heals quickly and he (Dhawan) will be available for the latter half of our league games and semi-finals for sure. From that point of view, we want to hold him back, keep him here,” Kohli said.
“He wants to play. I think that kind of mindset will help in healing the injury as well as he really wants to play,” Kohli said after India vs New Zealand game at Trent Bridge, Nottingham was washed out due to rain.
However, the latest reports come as a sooting aspect for the Indian National Cricket Team. A lot of chances of the Indian team depends on the top three batsmen. With the reports being positive, the Indian team management would take a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul will open the innings in absence of Shikhar Dhawan. But, this would make the management search for the number 4 batsman once again. Most Probably, Vijay Shankar would bat at the number 4 position unless the team goes for the experienced Dinesh Karthik.
