ICC World Cup 2019: Want to Learn as Much as Possible from Bhuvi, Shami and Bumrah Says Backup Bowler Navdeep Saini

Royal Challengers Bangalore speedster Navdeep Saini who made everyone notice him with his raw pace during the recently concluded IPL now wants to learn as much as possible from the liks of Jasprit Bumarh and Mohammed Shami. He is expected to be part of Team India’s preparation process for the World Cup and is also among the standby’s list.

Navdeep Saini who hails from Karnal played his domestic cricket for Delhi and is now representing RCB in the IPL. He will be travelling with the Indian team to the United Kingdom for the World Cup as one of the four net bowlers for India for the mega event. He has definitely impressed many by his raw pace and if any injury concern arises, he can make the India squad directly as he will also be with the Indian senior team.

Besides learning the lethal and toe-crushing Yorkers from Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini also wants to get the mind of Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who are already established players in the Indian team.

“We have spoken briefly in the IPL but not much as we were busy with our respective franchises. Bhuvi bhai’s swing, Bumrah bhai’s yorker and the way Shami bhai seams after pitching on the length is just amazing. I hope I will learn these things from them and become a better bowler,” Navdeep Saini was qupted as saying during an interview with the PTI.

Navdeep Saini finished among the top 10 leading wicket takers of IPL as he bagged 11 wickets in 13 matches for the Royal Challengers Bangalore besides bowling 141 dot balls during the tournament. He stated that playing with big players and under the captaincy of Virat Kohli was a great learning experience for him.

“It was a great learning experience playing under the Indian captain. He always backed me. He told me never to take any pressure and always keep the intensity high. Give your 110 per cent effort. It has become a habit for me now, Selection is a different thing and not in my hands. But first you have to be prepared and ready, and overcome your weaknesses,” Navdeep Saini said.

Meanwhile, Navdeep Saini further added that his current attention is to bowl well in the death overs which has been mastered by Jasprit Bumrah in the past two years.  “My focus currently is on improving my death bowling and backing my strength — bowling hard length ball that comes on top of the stumps.

“It’s a deadly delivery. We think batsmen will hit you, but if you make slight variation and bowl in the same area, it becomes a very difficult to clear,” Navdeep Saini said. He was impressive with his pace and was just 2nd only to Kagiso Rabada during the tournament. His fastest delivery clocked 152.8 kmph while Kagiso Rabada bowled his fastest delivery at 154.23 kmph.

“Performing alongside the stars of international cricket always boosts your confidence. It’s a great opportunity for me. My bowling coach (Ashish Nehra bhaiya) also helped me a lot. He told me on how to back yourself, and become a better bowler,” Saini added.

Meanwhile, he also gave full credit to Gautam Gambhir for helping him shape his career well. It was Gambhir who picked Saini from tennis ball tournaments and brought him to the Delhi squad. Navdeep Saini stated that it was for Gautam Gambhir that he is here today.

“I can never forget Gautam bhaiya’s contribution in my career. It’s all because of him I’m here. Every time I do something, Gautam bhaiya’s name will always come.

“After my family, it’s always Gautam bhaiya. I played nowhere, even in Haryana nobody knew me. It was Gautam bhaiya who brought me in and made me play for Delhi. Everybody knows about it now. The way he backed me and trusted in my abilities, I would never forget in my life,” he concluded
