Batting first, Afghanistan managed to post 227 runs with contributions from Asghar Afghan and Najibullah Zadran. Both of them chipped in with 42 runs each to take the total cross 200-run mark. Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan returning with four wickets while Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz chipped in two each.

Afghanistan dominated the most of the chase. The spinners kept picking wickets at regular intervals to keep Pakistan out of the game. But Imad Wasim took 18 runs from Afghan skipper Gulbadin Naib’s 46th over to change the course of the game. He remained unbeaten on 49 runs while Wahab Riaz contributed with useful 15 runs to clinch the thriller. Imad, who produced a man of the match effort, admitted that it was tough to pick Rashid Khan initially. He also revealed that they targetted Gulbadin as the wicket was assisting the spinners.
“When I went, Rashid was bowling brilliantly. Couldn’t pick him, to be honest. Just hung in there. Decided to play fifty overs. He (Naib) was the only bowler who could’ve been targeted, to be honest. Wicket was turning square. They’ve got world-class spinners. Plan was to attack when fast bowler comes in,” Imad said.
Furthermore, Imad Wasim said that they have the belief to win games from any situation and also thanked the fans for turning out in huge numbers and backing them well.
“Thanks to the crowd. Feels like home here. Win next game, never know what can happen. Now we believe we can win from anywhere,” he concluded.
