Windies Cricket Team have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales starting from May 30. The selectors have gone with the dangerous looking Andre Russell who has been in scintillating form in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
The inclusion of Andre Russell will boost the Windies led by Jason Holder. Russell has so far scored 392 runs from ten games at a blistering strike-rate of over 200. Besides, he has also claimed seven wickets which will be an extra option in the hands of Holder. Also, Russell is a very good fielder at the boundary which will add value to the team. On the other hand, the form Chris Gayle is in currently will keep the opponent team on their toes. The Universe Boss has announced his retirement after the showpiece event and will look to make this tournament his own.
The presence of Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope, and Carlos Brathwaite in the middle-order makes this side one of the dark horses in the tournament. Although many of them will play their first World Cup, they have the potent to change the game on any given day. Hope is very highly rated and will make a mark at the big stage.
The bowling also looks good with Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Oshane Thomas and the skipper himself making up the pace attack. Fabian Allen and Ashley Nurse will be the two spinners for the Windies team.
The team from the Caribbean has been in good form in recent times as they were on the verge of beating top-ranked England in a recent ODI series. They will look to continue their good effort and cause some upset at the big stage. Windies will begin their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on May 31 at Trent Bridge.
