ICC World Cup 2019: Workload Management Will be Very Important in the Tri-Series in Ireland Says Tamim Iqbal
Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal is of the opinion that the player rotation policy and the workload management will be of utmost importance during the tri-series in Ireland which will serve as a preparatory series for the upcoming World Cup which is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May.
Tamim Iqbal stated that the main players in the team need rest whenever they needs and that will be crucial to their chances in the World Cup. He also added that it won’t be possible to rest during the World Cup and hence it will be crucial to rotate the players during the tri-series in Ireland.
“The key will be to rest people whenever someone needs that [in Ireland],” Tamim said while speaking to reporters. “We all know that we cannot afford to rest in the World Cup. In Ireland, we will be playing five matches and if we opt to change after a game or two, I think it will be fine.”
The tri series in Ireland is slated to begin on 5th May. Windies will be the 3rd side in the tournament. The series will be played in a round robin format comprising of two rounds with the final slated to be played on 17th May. It definitely means that Bangladesh squad will have their work cut out before the World Cup but Tamim Iqbal decided to look at the brighter prospects.
“There is only one negative [with the tri-series] and it is that we will be playing 13 to 14 matches in one-and-a-half months but apart from that, I don’t see anything else because we don’t get the chance to play in those conditions often.”
Bangaldesh are generally used to playing in low and slow wickets. Hence it will be important for Bangladesh to get used to the conditions. The wickets in Ireland won’t be too much different from England. Hence the series will provide a perfect preparation process for Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal is hopeful that Bangladesh makes full use of the pre World Cup series and come out all guns blazing in the World Cup.
“I think the conditions will be a big challenge because we are not used to playing in Ireland often,” said the opener.
“The last time we played, the wickets were difficult, so I think the preparation and the practice games are very important. How we start the tournament is also very important as there is an in-form West Indies unit too.”
