Yuvraj Singh, who has announced his retirement from international cricket, has recently predicted Rishabh Pant’s better future while donning national jersey. Days ahead of Pant’s selection for the ICC World Cup 2019, Yuvraj has credited Pant for doing a good job in a short span. He added Pant is capable of going a long way in the top-flight cricket.

Moreover, the southpaw Pant has improved leaps and bounds by impressing selectors during the domestic fold, which further saw him making most of the limited opportunities.

Well, following his emotional retirement announce in Mumbai, Yuvraj has predicted Pant’s future. The southpaw has backed the youngster Pant, who earlier landed in England as a cover for Shikhar Dhawan. Unfortunately, Dhawan, who got ruled out saw Delhi-based Pant making it to the squad on June 19 (Wednesday).

Earlier, the senior batsman has suffered a broken bone when Pat Cummins’ deliver hit him on his left-hand thumb during his match-winning 123-run knock.

Well, it won’t be fair to say that Yuvraj has solely backed Pant for the World Cup. The selectors were in favour of Pant despite having Ambati Rayudu, who also has a decent bowling average.

“Rishabh Pant has the potential to be better than me. And he has proven himself in a short span of time,” Yuvraj said following his retirement.

After Pant expressed gratitude and congratulated Yuvraj for his career, the veteran all-rounder has responded in an exceptional way.

In his tweet, the 37-year-old maintained that he is expecting Pant to achieve more than him. Also, he has warned Pant that he will keep a close eye on him.

“I will make sure that you achieve more than me, and I’ll be keeping a check on you ? Thank you for your love and wishes,” Yuvraj tweeted.

So much so, Pant has two Test hundred which came in England and then in Australia. Yuvraj reiterated that Pant has the potential to go a long way.

“Pant has scored two test hundreds away – in Australia and England. He has a lot of potential. He has it in him to be a very attacking and match winning left-hander. I am really looking forward to seeing him in the next few years,” concluded Yuvraj.

Yuvraj, who himself earned the Man of the Tournament in 2011 World Cup, believes Pant has a crucial role to play. With number four position still a cause of concern, Pant is one of the contenders for the mega event.

Meanwhile, India will take on Afghanistan on Saturday (22) in Southampton.
