ToggleThe eagerly anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 schedule was unveiled by the ICC on Tuesday, June 27. Set to take place in India, the tournament will span from October 5 to November 19. This marks the first time that India will host the event on its own, having previously co-hosted it on three occasions.
The opening match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, featuring a face-off between last edition’s finalists, England and New Zealand. Meanwhile, the host nation, India, will kickstart their campaign in a thrilling encounter against the five-time world champions, Australia, in Chennai on October 5.
The ICC World Cup 2023 will feature a total of 10 participating teams. Eight teams have already secured their spots through the Cricket World Cup Super League, while the remaining two berths will be determined at the conclusion of the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 in Zimbabwe, which is scheduled to end on July 9.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with each team facing off against the other nine. The top four teams from the league stage will advance to the knockout stage, including the semifinals.
The matches will be spread across 10 venues: Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Additionally, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, along with Hyderabad, will host warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3.
ICC World Cup 2023 – Afghanistan World Cup schedule:
Afghanistan will open their campaign in ICC World Cup 2023 on October 7 when they take on Bangladesh in Dharamsala. It will be followed by the bumper clash against hosts India in Delhi on October 11. 3 days later, they will take on reigning champions England in Delhi.
In their fourth game of the campaign, they will take on last edition’s runner-up New Zealand in Chennai on October 18. 5 days later, they will take on bitter rivals Pakistan at the same venue. Afghanistan’s final league game is on November 10 against South Africa in Ahmedabad.
