West Indies batting legend Chris Gayle has said that he doesn’t think that Virat Kohli will be playing his final World Cup tournament when this year’s mega 50-over ICC event begins in India on October 5 onwards.

Kohli, considered to be one of the greatest batters in the modern era, is already a World Cup winner, winning the trophy in 2011 with the Indian team under the captaincy of MS Dhoni when the tournament was last hosted by India.

For billions of fans, the winning 2011 World Cup celebration scenes, in which Virat Kohli and his teammates placed batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on their shoulders, will always be remembered as a prized and ideal moment.

Team India will be aiming for the World Cup trophy to put an end to their protracted search for an ICC trophy after losing another WTC Final. The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy was the Men in Blue’s latest ICC trophy win, which occurred ten years ago.

India will enter the competition as the heavy favorite because of their home-field advantage and the lengthy wait.

While speaking to Times of India, he was asked that in 2011, India won the World Cup and the players said it was for Sachin Tendulkar, will there be the same sentiment for Virat Kohli this time? And the former West Indies swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle echoed that sentiment.

However, he did say that 34-year-old Virat Kohli still has one more World Cup in him.

“Virat Kohli still has another World Cup in him. I don’t think this is going to be his last World Cup. I think he has another World Cup in him. India are favourites, they play at home as well. So, it’s going to be very interesting. We want to see the team they’re actually going to select,” Gayle told the Times of India.

Virat Kohli has been in terrific form with the bat with centuries in all three formats since Asia Cup 2022 ending a drought of three years for a century. He has scored almost 500 runs in 9 ODIs since 2022 with 3 tons to his name and the best score of 166.
