After the success attained by the inaugural edition in South Africa, the World T20 bandwagon moved to England a couple of years later. The second edition saw two new teams from Europe, The Netherlands and Ireland replacing Kenya and Zimbabwe. The 16-day long tournament featured 12 teams divided into four groups. The 2009 ICC World T20 which had a total of 27 matches got launched on June 5, 2009 with an inaugural match between hosts England and Netherlands, the game that the Dutch fans won’t forget for a while as their side defeated England by 4 wickets at Lord’s. The tournament had a few memorable moments which includes The Netherlands’ win over England, Chris Gayle’s onslaught against Brett Lee and Pakistan lifting the World T20 trophy at the end as they defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the finals. Even though the 2009 edition failed to live up to the expectation created by 2009, the tournament had a good response from the fans.
