ToggleThe ongoing cycle of ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 (ICC WTC 2021-23) is all set to enter its business phase. Barring Australia and South Africa, all the other teams have played at least 4 series while they have played 3 so far.
At present, as many as five teams – South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan – have a realistic chance of qualifying for the ICC WTC Final 2021-23. West Indies have a very slim chance of progressing ahead while England and New Zealand are all but out of the final race. As far as Bangladesh are concerned, they are well out of the race.
Currently, South Africa are ruling the ICC WTC points table with a PCT of 71.43%, followed by Australia, who are at 70%. They are followed by Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan respectively.

Here is the updated ICC WTC Points Table after the second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan:
Position | Team | Matches | Won | Lost | Drawn | NR | Points | PCT |
1 | South Africa | 7 | 5 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 60 | 71.43 |
2 | Australia | 10 | 6 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 84 | 70 |
3 | Sri Lanka | 10 | 5 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 64 | 53.33 |
4 | India | 12 | 6 | 4 | 2 | 0 | 75 | 52.08 |
5 | Pakistan | 9 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 56 | 51.85 |

8 | New Zealand | 9 | 2 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 28 | 25.93 |
9 | Bangladesh | 10 | 1 | 8 | 1 | 0 | 16 | 13.33 |
Here’s What India Need To Do To Qualify For ICC WTC Final
While India are currently at the fourth spot in the ICC WTC Points Table, they still have their fortunes in their own hands. Rohit Sharma & Co. could still make it to the final which is scheduled to take place next year.

The road ahead, however, is not easy for India as they cannot afford another slipup. India have two more series left – a two-match away series against Bangladesh and four-match home series against Australia.
If India go on to win all of their remaining six games, they will end the ongoing ICC WTC campaign with a points percentage of 68.06. In that case, India’s tally will be more than Australia’s even if they win their remaining five home Tests. In such a case, the runners-up of the inaugural ICC WTC will finish in the top two and make it to the final.

However, if India fail to collect all of the available points, they will have to depend on other results. Another slipup could very well quash their chances of qualifying for the final.
