Former India batsman Aakash Chopra has said he is worried about Team India’s batting lineup ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. The highly-anticipated game is scheduled to get underway on June 7 at the Oval in London.

Australia are widely regarded as the favorites due to their formidable attack. The likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Michael Neser and Scott Boland have the potential to blow away any batting attack in the bowling friendly English conditions. Rohit Sharma & Co. will have their task cut out against Cummins & Co. as India look to win their first-ever WTC title.

Many believe that the battle between Indian batsmen and Australia bowlers has the potential to decide the outcome of the WTC final. And while only time will tell how it pans out, Aakash Chopra sounded a bit worried for India. While the former India opener was confident in the Indian bowling attack, he could not stop himself from expressing his concerns over the batting lineup.

“When I see this squad, I see the quality in bowling. India’s problem will only be their batting. I feel this is a bowling attack that can trouble Australia’s batters in England.

“I am slightly worried about the batting. Australia start off as the stronger side to begin with, but I have tremendous faith in the quality of Indian bowling and they could upset the applecart,”  Aakash Chopra said on Star Sports.

Speaking further, Aakash Chopra said that apart from Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara, other Indian batsmen don’t really inspire confidence based on their recent form. Apart from Rohit and Pujara, the likes of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan are likely to be the batsmen in India’s top six.

“If you see the top six and their current form and imagine that they are playing in England, who gives you the confidence – Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara is once again a reliable player. Barring these two, there is a slight question mark on the others based on their form,” said Chopra.

He further talked about the Indian bowling attack and said that the bowlers have the potential to bring India back into the game if the batsmen fail to do well.

“Bowling can probably bring India back into the game. You said there is one Test match, so there are fewer chances of making a comeback but Test match cricket is such that if you don’t play well in the first two days and you improve your game later, a comeback can happen,” said Chopra.
