Ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final between India and Australia, former batsman Wasim Jaffer has expressed his concerns over India’s preparedness for the huge clash.
Barring Cheteshwar Pujara, all the Indian players have gone to London for the WTC final after playing in the recently-concluded IPL 2023 for a couple of months. With the IPL ending on May 29, the players had little time to prepare for the red-ball contest.
And while only time will tell how things turn out for Team India in the much-anticipated contest, Wasim Jaffer is concerned over the Indian players not getting ample time to prepare. The former India opener has opined that it would not be easy for the players to switch to red-ball cricket with little practice. He, however, also said that modern players are used to making such a rapid change in less time.
“Things are looking good but the only concern is that they have played so much T20 cricket in the past two months and for them to adjust quickly, that is going to be a challenge without having any match practice only four or five days of preparation. I am sure nowadays cricketers have learnt to make that switch very quickly,” Wasim Jaffer told the Indian Express.
Recently, several Indian players revealed that they trained with red-ball while playing in the IPL and will be hoping that it helps them perform well in English conditions. The players will also be looking to take suggestion from teammate Cheteshwar Pujara who recently plied his trade for Sussex in English County Championship.
The ICC WTC final is scheduled to be played from June 7 at the Oval in London. India will be desperate to win the game and end their long wait for an ICC trophy.
