Ignored as applicant, DDCA now thrives for ‘National Selector’ Sarandeep Singh
This world is a merry go round; sometimes it happens that life gives you a second chance but sometimes not, same is the case with DDCA. In the first week of this month when DDCA invited applications for the post of selectors and coaches for various age groups, Sarandeep Singh was one of the applicants who applied for the post of the selector of Delhi Ranji team. A panel of 5 members led by Vivek Razdan did not select Sarandeep as Nikhil Chopra, Atul Wasan and Robin Singh (jr.) made the cut for the similar post.
During that time BCCI too put an advertisement and invited applications for the post of the national selectors, a hopeful Sarandeep Singh again applied for the post and then came a surprise, he was selected for the post of the selector of Indian cricket team with MSK Prasad appointed as the chief selector. That was something neither DDCA nor Sarandeep Singh would himself thought of. It came as a big surprise to everyone and then DDCA realised the importance of Sarandeep Singh thereafter.
Now, they are thriving to get Sarandeep Singh in state selection panel and in fact C.K. Khanna, the BCCI vice-president and senior vice president of DDCA have written a letter to DDCA Vice-president Chetan Chauhan to include newly appointed national selector Sarandeep Singh in the state selection panel. However, his hopes have received a jolt as Justice Mukul Mudgal clearly stated that in no case any changes can be made in selection panel now.
“I know a letter has been written to Chetan Chauhan in this regard. Look, I had formed a panel and they had done their job. I don’t think there is any question of any change in the selection panel. Right now I am waiting for the High Court verdict,” Justice Mudgal told PTI.
The court is yet to give its decision but now the ball is in Sarandeep’s court. It will be interesting to see that whether Sarandeep accepts DDCA’s offer or not. A few years back Madan Lal and Kirti Azad were part of DDCA’s selection panel when they were serving as a selector of the national team; this is the reason why DDCA wants Sarandeep Singh in state selection panel as well.
