In-form MS Dhoni Makes Gain In Latest ODI Rankings, Virat Kohli Continues To Lead
India skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma have retained their No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Both the players recently played in the five-match series against New Zealand. While Kohli played the first three games before leaving the team to take some much-needed rest, Rohit played all the five ODIs, leading the team in the last two games. Rohit will also lead the team in the upcoming T20I series. Veteran batsman MS Dhoni has also made significant gain in the rankings, jumping up three places.
Kohli finished the series 148 runs while Rohit scored 169. Dhoni, who too missed two games due to injuries, managed to score 49 runs in two innings.
In bowling, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has moved up seven places to grab the third position. Boult finished the series as the top wicket-taker, picking up 12 wickets including a five-wicket haul in the fourth ODI. The left-arm pacer had picked up 5 for 21, helping New Zealand beat India by 8 wickets and register their only win of the series.
In other changes, Fakhar Zaman has jumped two places to become the 9th ranked batsman. Shikhar Dhawan dropped two places and now sits on 10th place while New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is out of top 10 after losing one spot.
India star Jasprit Bumrah continues to sit at the top of the bowlers’ ranking despite missing the series in Australia and New Zealand. Afghanistan spin sensation Rashid Khan is at the second spot. Boult, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal complete the top five.
In the team rankings, India gained one point to reach 122 points and have bridged the gap with England who are leading the rankings table with 126 points. New Zealand, on the other hand, slipped to fourth after losing two points. India and New Zealand would have remained on their pre-series tally of 121 and 113 points, respectively, had the home side won the fifth ODI.
