Newlands To Host The First Match Of Inaugral Global T20 League

A new T20 cricket league is set to begin this year. This time it’s South Africa’s turn to host its inaugural T20 league. The league will be known as ‘Global T20 League’ is set to begin from 3rd November. The first match will take place at the Newlands between the Cape town Knight Riders and Pretoria Mavericks. The match will have some big names like Ab De Villiers, Dwayne Bravo and Morne Morkel playing for the Knight Riders and Chris Gaylen JP Duminy and Dale Steyn playing for the Pretoria Mavericks.
Tournament director Russell Adams said, “There is quite literally going to be non-stop action of the highest international quality from the League opener on November 3 right through to the final on December 16, Can you imagine the excitement on our opening night at iconic Newlands when two of the greatest players in the history of the T20 format. AB de Villiers of the Pretoria Mavericks and Chris Gayle of the Cape Town Knight Riders go head to head.” He added, “There will be similar excitement as the League moves around the country to our other host venues with a myriad of international and South African stars in action,”
The tournament will last for 44 days and will have 57 matches with the double headers scheduled on every weekend. The tournament comprises of eight teams and the top two teams on the table will reach the final, to be held on 16th December.
Each team comprises of 18 members, with one local marquee player and one international marquee player in the side. The players were picked through a draft which took place on Sunday. The tournament has cricketers from all the cricketing nations except for India. After the Global T20 league, the Indian team travels to the rainbow nation for a full fledged tour.
