IND v ENG, 4th Test: Player Ratings Of Virat Kohli’s Men

Virat Kohli-led India, on Monday, sealed an emphatic win over England in the fourth and penultimate Test to take an unassailable lead 3-0 in the series. Indian bowlers did not provide a good start on Day 1 as England were able to score more than 400 runs in the first innings. But their batsmen were quick to keep the visitors under check as led by the captain himself, they gained a lead of 231, which proved to enough as Ravichandran Ashwin and co. made a remarkable comeback in the next innings and bowled out England for just 195, winning the game by an innings and 36 runs.

Ashwin rose to the occasion once again as he grabbed yet another five-fer and ended the game with 12 wickets. Kohli too starred with the bat and scored his third double century this year. Not to forget the contribution of Jayant Yadav, who scored a century coming in at number nine.

To adjudge the performance of these players, here are the player ratings which will give you a clear idea about contribution of each player in this game –

KL Rahul (1 out of 5) –

KL Rahul

Since his comeback , KL Rahul has not been able to start the tourney from where he left against West Indies. He has scored only 34 runs in two matches so far and with low scores like these, he is putting himself under pressure as India have some options to replace him. For his yet another poor show, he is awarded a rating of just one.

Murali Vijay (4 out of 5) –

Murali Vijay raises his bat after completing his eight Test hundred on day three of fourth Test match against England at Mumbai.

Before the start of the fourth Test, Anil Kumble said Murali Vijay is just one knock away from striking form and the batsman proved his coach right with a brilliant century. For his innings of 136, he gets four points.

Cheteshwar Pujara (2 out of 5) –

pujara

The way in which he got out was a big disappointment as he looked to leave a Jake Ball delivery which came in at the last moment and castled his off stump. For his innings of 47, he gets a rating of two.

Virat Kohli (5 out of 5) –

Virat Kohli

His records and numbers in this game are enough to tell his impact in the game and even a perfect five is not enough to tell his contribution in the game. Skipper Kohli scored yet another double century this season, leading the team from the front to seal the game and the series.

Karun Nair (1 out of 5)

Karun Nair scores a century.

Karun Nair is a big name in domestic cricket as he is one of the few batsmen to score three back to back centuries in Ranji Trophy. but he has failed to replicate his domestic performance here. The way he has let gome the chances provided to him, a day will come when he may run out of them and might see himself playing domestic cricket again. He is given just one point for yet another failure.

Parthiv Patel (2 out of 5) –

Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel did not have a great game as he failed with the bat and also was sloppy behind the wickets. The Chennai game will be the last chance for him to redeem himself and if he fails again, then he may not be considered for next series. On the other hand, a good run in the next game will keep his hopes of making a comeback in ODI team alive.

Ravindra Jadeja (4 out of 5) –

A tale of Ravindra Jadeja's bunny.

Ravindra Jadeja scalped six wickets in this game and also scored 25 runs with the bat. He shared a crucial partnership of 57 runs with Virat Kohli to steer India near to the total of England. His bowling partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin was something that turned the game in team India’s favor. .

Ravichandran Ashwin (5 out of 5) –

Ravichandran Ashwin

Though not awarded the Man of the Match award, Ashwin was the real hero for India in this game as grabbed 12 wickets in the game to topple England’s batting line-up. He made England batsmen dance to his tunes. Along with that, he grabbed many crucial wickets right at start of the third innings on Sunday to end England’s hopes of saving the game.

Jayant Yadav (4 out of 5) –

Jayant Yadav along with the team-mates celebrate after dismissing Jos Buttler in the second innings of the Mohali Test.

He might have come to the team as a bowler but his batting is something which has been the attracting factor so far. In this game, his bat did the talking again as he scored a century at the moment when Indian team needed him the most as at one stage there were chances of hosts conceding the first innings lead to England but his century and a big partnership with Virat Kohli just changed the situation of the game. Jayant has been awarded a total of four points for his century and one wicket but the captain would want him to take some wickets as well so as to become an ideal all-rounder.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1 out of 5)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

As said, the spinner-friendly Wankhede wicket was the reason behind Bhuvneshwar ending up with just one wicket. He is awarded two points for his contribution but again a reminder, the pitch was responsible for such a performance and not the quality of bowling.

Umesh Yadav (1 out of 5) –

Umesh Yadav

Really it’s not his fault that he has just got one point as it was the pitch that had nothing for pacers which is evident by the fact that the Indian spinners pouched 19 wickets and pacers just one.
