India registered a comprehensive victory by an innings and 262 runs against Afghanistan in the one-off Test at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru inside just two days.
It was a thoroughly professional performance by the home team. They have played some exceptional brand of cricket in the last couple of years or so. Afghanistan realised the fact that Test cricket is of a different genre and they need to pull their socks up pretty quickly when they play their 2nd Test.
Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay led the early foundation on the opening day of the Test match. Dhawan looked in imperious touch and became the 1st Indian to smash a century within lunch of an opening day of a Test match.
He smashed the Afghan bowlers with disdain and eventually got dismissed on 107 off 96 deliveries. The innings studded with 19 fours and three sixes. His partner Murali Vijay also scored a fluent century.
On the 2nd day morning, Hardik Pandya played a good inning of 71, as India were bowled out for 474. The Afghan batters were in early trouble after the run-out of Mohammad Shehzad. From there on, it was a procession of sorts. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and there was no way back for the visitors. Only Mohammad Nabi managed to look good in the middle.
Eventually, they were skittled out for a mediocre 109 in their 1st innings inside the 28th over. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers bagging four wickets while Ishant and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a couple each.
The story wasn’t any different for Afghanistan in the 2nd innings after they were asked to bat again by Rahane.
For yet another time, the wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Mohammad Nabi got promoted up the order. However, he was dismissed by Umesh Yadav without troubling the scorers. If Ashwin bagged four in the 1st innings, it was the turn for Jadeja to join in the act in the 2nd essay.
He bowled in the perfect areas and finished with four wickets. Ishant was again successful bagging two wickets. Umesh Yadav also bowled in the right areas and bagged three wickets.
Afghanistan was eventually shot out for 103 in the 2nd essay thus handing India their biggest victory.
