Chennai has been MS Dhoni fortress for quite a while now, as the wicketkeeping great has enjoyed some priceless moments out here. Be it his triumphs with local IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings, or his heroic innings against Pakistan in late 2012; Dhoni has seen it all.
Against Australia in the opening ODI of the five-match series, Dhoni created yet another world record against the run of play. Coming in when the team was in utter misery, having lost their top four wickets in no time, Dhoni had the revival job for the team, again.
Along with the ever flamboyant Hardik Pandya, Dhoni didn’t just revive the Indian innings from a state of utter agony but also ensured the bowlers had a healthy total to bowl at.
During his calm, yet reassuring knock, Dhoni registered his 100th international fifty, and entered an elite list of cricketers to do so. It can also be termed as another fantastic record which goes in the tally of the ever inspiring and larger than life, MS Dhoni.
Early in the day, the decision to bat first from Virat Kohli turned out to be a dampener, as India’s top-order wilted away. Opener Ajinkya Rahane endured another poor show, as his sluggish knock of five of 15 was just too weak.
Skipper Virat Kohli was sent back for a duck, as Glenn Maxwell took a stunning catch at point to send back the Indian captain. It all came down to Pandya and Dhoni to rescue the innings. The innings though would be best remembered for the aggression of Pandya, and the 100th international fifty of MS Dhoni.
