Australia scored a consolation win after they outclassed India by 21 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru in a high-scoring contest. The visitors finally looked in their old form after struggling badly so far in the series. The win came courtesy to an exemplary display of batsmanship.
Aaron Finch continued to sizzle and made his presence felt with a superb half-century, David Warner got back in form and smashed a spectacular 124 in his 100th ODI while the middle-order chipped in with crucial runs when it mattered the most.
The Australians reached the top gear as soon as the opening duo of Finch and Warner began flourishing and eventually added 231 for the opening wicket. A small slump followed soon after this dominance, but Travis Head and Peter Handscomb ensured that no collapse took place. This collective led Australia to set a stiff target of 335 runs for India to chase.
The Indians started off on a strong note with openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane adding 106 for the first wicket. It seemed the tone for the chase was set in a rhythm at the time the two were at the crease. But, Kane Richardson broke through with the wicket of Rahane. A mix-up caused by a brilliant fielding effort from Steven Smith saw Sharma get run out shortly. Coulter – Nile and Adam Zampa chipped in with the important wicket of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya to turn the game in favor of the Australians.
Kedar Jadhav and Mannish Pandey held things together, but the Australians kept the noose tight and eventually strangled India completely, allowing them to reach on 313 for eight by the end of 50 overs.
The Indians, quite evidently, were not the top side yesterday but game was an evenly fought contest where some did well, and some did not
Let’s have a look at how players fared individually.
