IND vs AUS 2017: Chief Selector Hails Chennai Game Stars

MSK Prasad, the Chief Selector of the Indian cricket team, has heaped praises on the duo of MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya ahead of the second ODI against Australia in Kolkata.

Prasad called the partnership between Dhoni and Pandya as brilliant, and credited them for the win in the first ODI of the series against Australia in Chennai,

“It was a brilliant show by Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni. Their partnership was outstanding and both played a huge role in our victory. The bowlers did not lag behind. It was a complete team performance and I am sure the team will continue to do so in the rest of the matches,’’ he told The Indian Express.

At one stage, the Indian team was three down for 11, with Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey, all the three players back in the pavilion. Rohit Sharma and Kedar Jadhav then tried to recuperate the innings, but they could not do the long-term job. Later, it was the pair of MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya that steered the team to a big total.

Prasad called it as one of the finest matches he has seen in a long time,

“It was a splendid performance by India at Chennai. From being 87 for 5 with half the side back in the pavilion to winning the game. It is one of the finest matches I have seen in a long time,’’ he added.

On being asked about making any changes to the team further, Prasad made it clear they just select the team, and it is the team management that picks the final XI,

“Let’s make it very clear. We (selectors) pick the best team possible and give it to the team management. It is they (team management) who decide who plays and where.”

The Indian team will take on Australia in the second ODI of the series at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on September 21 (Thursday). A win in the contest will ensure a lead of 2-0 for the hosts, whereas, a defeat here will bring down the equation to one each.

Both the teams are expected to retain the same playing XI for the second ODI.
