India defeated Australia by 26 runs in a rain-curtailed first ODI MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Batting first India ended up with a respectable total of 281/7, thanks to a blistering career-best knock of 83 off 66 balls by Hardik Pandya and a calm and composed knock by India’s former skipper MS Dhoni steadied the innings for the Indian team after the early jitters had shaken the Indian batting lineup.

However, this loss didn’t come up well for some Australians as Dean Jones tweeted:

“So I see India needed a bit of rain to win that game. Ok … bring on Game 2.”

This statement didn’t go down well with the Indian fans as he was heavily criticized for this comment by the fans.

India had lost half of their side with 87 on the board in the 21st over when Hardik Pandya came into bat along with MS Dhoni. Dhoni and Pandya both anchored the innings from there on and guided India to a defendable total of 281. However, heavens opened up in the mid-innings and played spoil sport in the match. The Australian total was reduced to 164 in 21 overs via Duckworth-Lewis method.

The Australians had no answer to Hardik Pandya’s fiery spell as he picked up two quick wickets of Hilton Cartwright and Steve Smith. Australians were off track from the very beginning of their innings as they were unable to cope up with the required rate. India’s wrist spinners then rammed through Australia’s middle and lower order as the Australians could only manage 137/9 in their 21 overs.

Maxwell was the top scorer for the Australian team as he tried to infuse some life in the Australian innings with a quick-fire 18-ball 39 but it wasn’t enough for the Australians.

This is how Twitterati’s reacted to Jones’s comment about India’s victory.
