IND vs AUS 2017: Felt Lucky to Play Such Innings With MS Dhoni – Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya added more substance to his growing reputation as the next match finisher for India with a combative knock against Australia in the opening ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The innings was a typical display for his maturing cricketing brain and the much talked about six hitting capabilities.

The Baroda star entered in the middle at a time when India was in the centre of a collapse standing at 87/5 and put up 118 runs stand for the 6th wicket to help Indian reach a comfortable position in the match and set a challenging total for the Australians.

While Pandya stole the limelight with his aggressive knock, it was MS Dhoni’s calm & calculative approach that laid the platform for the youngster to irritate the opposition with his fearless approach.

The 23-year-old acknowledged the fact while speaking in the post-match presser and credited MS Dhoni for backing his instincts.

“It’s an amazing feeling, to be honest. Australians were on top, and it was pressure situation for us. We had lost wickets early on. So, during such situation, it was important for me to stay with MSD and forge a stand. I meant to say that I have learned a lost from MS and will continue to pick his brain.”

Speaking about the discussion which he had with the veteran, Pandya revealed that they set a particular target in their mind and then played accordingly.

“We discussed possible methods to bring the momentum in our favour. To play with him is a huge opportunity. I am fortunate. I was trying to hit Zampa. My normal approach is to go after spinners straightaway. Players standing at the long on and long off don’t matter. I had the confidence that if I middle the ball, it will go past the boundary line without any doubt. When I was batting with Mahi bhai, we expected to reach 230 but ended up making 280.”
