India’s tour of Australia has given fans some great memories, although India did not enjoy much success in the ODI’s on their tour Down Under in 2016. The match played in Sydney will be remembered by the fans as one of the greatest run chases by India in Australia.

The Australian team posted a mammoth 330/7 in 50 overs, thanks to centuries from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. The Australians had already won the series coming into the match with a 4-0 lead and were in no mood to take their foot off the pedal in the last ODI.

The young Indian team came out to bat in the second innings under a lot of pressure to salvage some pride by winning the final One Day match of the series.

Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma started the innings with some intent and laid the foundation for the rest of the batting lineup. The two added 123 runs for the opening wicket. Dhawan scored 78 off 56 deliveries, whereas, Rohit fell agonisingly close to a century on 99.

However, the star of the run-chase was Manish Pandey, who scored his maiden ODI hundred (104) runs to take India across the finishing line with two balls to remain. It was the only positive for the Indian team apart from winning the T20 series 3-0.

The Benson and Hedges World Championship is best known for Ravi Shastri winning an Audi car as the man of the series award in the tournament.

However, earlier in the tournament, India had defeated Australia by a huge margin of eight wickets in the 9th match. By virtue of that India knocked Australia out of the tournament, and later went on to win the trophy.

It was also the first global tournament after India had won the 1983 World Cup. In the ninth game, India restricted Australia for a mere 163 runs in 49.3 overs. Roger Binny and Kapil Dev dismantled the Australian top order.

India cruised to victory in 36.1 overs, with the openers scoring 124 runs partnership helping India cruise to a comfortable victory by eight wickets. L. Srikkanth scored 93 runs off 115 balls, and Ravi Shastri scored 51 runs off 94 deliveries.

  1.  2nd ODI (Australia’s tour of India at Jaipur, 2013)

The series between India and Australia in 2013 broke numerous records, as batsmen took the toll on the bowlers for the entire series.

The series saw Rohit Sharma scoring his first double century, Kohli scoring the fastest century by an Indian in ODI’s and also the highest runs scored in a bilateral series. In the second ODI played in Jaipur, India chased down 360 runs, making it the second highest run-chase in ODI’s. Australia scored 359/5 in their 50 overs, with their top five batsmen scoring a fifty, a feat which no team had achieved before.

Indian top three; Dhawan, Sharma and Kohli smashed the Australian bowlers all over the park reaching the total in just 43.3 overs. Dhawan got out on 95 runs, but Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were in no mood to spare the Australian bowling lineup led by Mitchell Johnson.

Kohli scored the fastest century by an Indian batsman in 52 balls in the match to take India over the line. Rohit also scored 141* in the game. Rohit also finished the series as the top scorer with 491 runs in five contested matches.

India’s tour of Australia in 2008 was full of drama; be it the Test series or the One Day Internationals.

India won a Test match in Perth after the controversial game in Sydney. In the One Day series which also included Sri Lanka as the third team, the Indian team emerged victorious over the two countries. The One Day series then included a best of the three final between the two teams which end up with more points.

The first final played in Sydney was a final which no one can ever forget, as this match also saw Sachin Tendulkar scoring his first One Day hundred in Australia.

The hosts could only manage 239/8 in the designated 50 overs, thanks to some disciplined bowling from the Indian bowlers. In reply, India lost Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh early in the run-chase.

This meant Sachin had to shoulder the responsibility to anchor the run-chase. The Master Blaster scored an incredible 117* to guide India to a famous win in the first final. India eventually went on to win the second match and clinch the Commonwealth Bank series for the first time.

India had won just one match against New Zealand in the whole tournament before this game. The qualification between India and New Zealand had now come down to the net run rate. In the sixth match between India and Australia in Sharjah, Sachin scored a blistering 143 runs off 131 balls.

During the game, a sandstorm disrupted the play. India, however, lost the match by 26 runs; they managed to qualify for the finals, kudos to the heroics of Sachin. Later, India eventually went onto win the final as well, as another century by Sachin Tendulkar wrecked havoc.

It was during this tournament that Shane Warne had claimed he had nightmares of bowling to Tendulkar after being dominated by him throughout the tournament.
