The Australian batting lineup is currently in complete tatters as none of the batsmen have been able to show some gut and carry the Australian batting in the three matches of the ongoing One-Day series. No batsmen have been able to capitalise on the starts they’ve got except for Aaron Finch who made a comeback from injury in the third ODI. India have already taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.

In the third ODI, Australia looked in complete control until the 38th over of their innings as they had lost only two wickets for 224. But another Australian batting collapse derailed their innings to a big score. The middle order failed to capitalise on the platform provided by the openers and skipper Steven Smith. They could only manage 293 in their 50 overs which were clearly below par. Former Australian captain Michael Clarke admitted in a post-match interview that the Aussies were 40 runs below par.

Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter and asked Clarke to come out of his retirement and start playing again. He wrote, “Mate u need to come out of your retirement and start playing again I think.Era of Aussies producing top batsmans is over I feel.No quality.”

Clarke who has taken over commentary after his playing career is also in India commentating for Star India. He replied by saying that he is happy in the commentary box. He wrote, “I have only just seen this buddy. These old legs of mine are enjoying the air conditioned commentary box. Aussies have some work to do! “

India and Australia will now travel to Bangalore for the fourth ODI. The final ODI will be played in Nagpur. Australia will be looking forward to salvaging some pride after losing the first three ODI’s of the series.
