IND vs AUS 2017: Hardik Pandya First Indian Since Yuvraj Singh to Inflict an All Rounder’s Double
With every passing game and day, Hardik Pandya is growing in stature as an all-rounder and a match winner.
The once considered T20 specialist is now stamping his authority on all forms of the game, and if his recent performance against Australia is anything to go by, India has simply unearthed an absolute gem. With the side in dire straits at 87-5 and staring at misery, Pandya played a heroic knock to not just rescue the team, but even give the bowlers something healthy to bowl at.
Along with MS Dhoni, Pandya got involved in an-118 run stand, out of which 83 were his. Taking just 66 deliveries for his knock, Pandya put the pressure back on the Australians.
Later on, he went on to take two crucial wickets, which dented Australia’s run-chase. One of his scalps included Aussie skipper Steven Smith, who seemed all at sea. As a result of his all-round brilliance, Pandya became the first Indian since Yuvraj Singh, to score over 80 runs in an ODI and then pick up two wickets. Yuvraj achieved the feat against West Indies, way back in the 2011 World Cup in Chennai.
Pandya was named the Man of the Match, and this is what he had to say,
“It was a good day for me. A couple of catches would have helped. It feels pretty good. I don’t think anything has changed. I’m the same Hardik, perhaps a bit calmer than last year. I just wanted to play my game.”
“As a cricketer, it is important to have the right form. I am glad I am doing well in the batting department and bowling department. I have a wonderful bunch of people around me. I’d like to thank my coach,” he added.
