The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Monday (September 11), announced the names of umpires and referees for the upcoming five-match One-Day International and T20 International series between India and Australia.
According to a press release, the apex body of the game has appointed the officials after considering the following four points.
• Independent of the countries involved in the match/series
• The best available umpires for the match/series
• Better performing umpires used more often
• Frequency of individuals appointed to same teams
• Workload considerations
Australia’s tour will kick start with the ODI leg, and the entire series will be overseen by Jeff Crowe while South Africa’s Marais Erasmus will be one of the overseas umpires in the series-opener scheduled to on Sunday (September 17) in Chennai. England’s Richard Illingworth will be the TV umpire for the first ODI. Richie Richardson will be the match referee for the entire T20I series, starting from October 7.

Meanwhile, the Australian team has arrived in India after their two-match Test series in Bangladesh which ended 1-1. The tourists will get an opportunity to get a feel of the conditions when they take on Board President’s XI in a warm-up game on Tuesday (September 12) in Chennai.
Indian selectors, meanwhile, announced the 16-man squad on Sunday (September 10) for the first three games of the series. There are not many significant changes in the team that was picked for the series in Sri Lanka.
Shardul Thakur has been the only omission from the squad while fast-bowling duo Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami have returned to the team.
