IND vs AUS 2017: Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja have been Rested – MSK Prasad
Team India’s Chief selector, MSK Prasad, has said Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested following the rotation policy,

“The team for the three ODIs against Australia has been selected in line with the rotation policy of the Board and accordingly R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested. The team’s performance during the Sri Lanka tour was outstanding and players like Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, who performed very well are being given an extended run and this will, in turn, supplement our approach, to build a strong reserve strength, as we prepare for forthcoming tours,” MSK Prasad said.

While Ashwin is playing county cricket in England, Jadeja is currently on rest. Ashwin signed a deal with Worcestershire for four games. He has played two games till now and will only return to the country after playing the remaining two games.

In fact, it came to notice that it was the selectors who asked him to go and play County Cricket, so his exclusion from the squad is not at all a surprise. However, the rest given to Jadeja is a big surprise.

He was part of India Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka, but after being banned for the third Test, he returned home and was rested for the limited-over series. Though Prasad said, it is the form of other spinners which impressed him, but is the selection committee looking at those three as a long term prospect? Because if that is the case, then this can result in Jadeja and Ashwin being confined to Test format only.

Ashwin’s place has already been in jeopardy since 2015 World Cup, and surely, the selectors are looking beyond him and Jadeja as well.

The India squad for the first three ODIs against Australia have no surprises. Shardul Thakur is the only man who has been dropped from the side, but he will play for India A in the two unofficial Test matches against New Zealand A.

Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami have been added to the squad. It will be interesting to see whether Shami will be given a rope in ODI team or not.
