- Ricky Ponting – 2164 runs:
By far the most successful Australian batsman against India was the two-time World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting.
As striking as it may seem, Ponting played the greatest knock of his limited-overs career, right against this very opposition, at the highest stage of the game, in the final of the 2003 World Cup. His knock back then tormented an entire generation in India, as he ravaged into the Indian bowling on that afternoon of the 23rd of March 2003.
With 2164 runs in 59 matches along with six centuries, Ponting took India head on, and his numbers further reflect that. Like Hayden and Gilchrist, Ponting’s career too came to an end against India.
