This young, energetic and ever enthusiastic Indian side is simply going places under the captaincy of the ever magnificent Virat Kohli.
Kohli has instilled a sense of complete aggression within the unit, which has drastically transformed the outlook of the Indian side. When they step onto the field, Men in Blue play with a clear direction and purpose, and with the sheer will to win at all costs.
That was pretty evident in the first ODI of the five-match series against Australia in Chennai. Despite being reduced to a paltry 11 for three, the hosts never gave up and always had the spirit of resilience attached in every aspect. The 118-run stand between Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni changed the equation, as based on the partnership, India got to a more than a defendable total.
After posting 281, it was up to the bowlers to then defend the rain-marred target of 164 in 21 overs, which they did quite comfortably. The win ensured that it was India’s 10th successive international win under Virat Kohli, the most for an Indian captain.
Kohli went past the tally of Dhoni, who had nine successive wins to his name as an Indian captain. The Indian skipper was delighted with his efforts and lauded the side.
“This is a pleasing win because we were in a tough situation. MS and Kedar played well early, Hardik’s innings was fantastic. And MS finished off the way he does. It’s a good sign for us that our lower order batting is firing. Today was an example, Sri Lanka was an example, how good they can be. The bowlers were outstanding as well. It’s just a matter of giving players the confidence,” said Kohli.
