Alex Carey has revealed the reaction of his teammate Travis Head following the brutal axing he faced from the playing eleven for the first Test between India and Australia at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur last week.

Travis Head’s inclusion took the cricket world by surprise and was met with severe criticism from the Australian cricket fraternity. Australia sensationally dropped the left-handed batsman from the playing eleven in order to make room for Matt Renshaw.

In the end, the decision did not pay off as Renshaw flopped with the bat in both the innings. Talking about Travis Head, he arrived in India as the number four Test batsman in the world and a fine summer at home.

He had smashed 525 runs at 87.50 against the West Indies and South Africa at home before arriving in India. The stunning run exploits made him the first Australian to finish a home Test summer with 500+ runs and a strike rate of more than 95.

Travis Head’s reaction:

There is absolutely no denying that the decision to drop Travis Head for the series-opener must have been very tough on the batsman. Alex Carey, however, has revealed that his teammate responded well to the tough selection call.

Carey began by stating that Travis Head was disappointed over missing out on playing in the first Test. However, he later responded well. The wicketkeeper-batsman also stated that his teammate is set to play a big role in this series.

“Disappointed. He loves playing for his country. He’s done really well in the past home summer. So he was disappointed not to be a part of it,” said Carey.

“He’s been fantastic. He’s out there again, bowling and batting. The guys say it, we love having him around. I love having him around and his response was great for the group.

“He’ll play a big part in this series too. If he’s in the next Test, he’s looking pretty good out there and his bowling’s obviously come on a long way too. So his response has been really good,” he added.
