Australia captain Pat Cummins will head home from India due to a private family matter ahead of the third Test of the ongoing four-match series against the hosts.
With the second Test also ending inside three days, there is a gap of 10 days break before the third Test gets underway in Indore. As per reports, the Australian team has decided to stay in Delhi for some time in order to refresh and recover. They will fly to Indore later this week.
In the meantime, Pat Cummins has decided to head home for a couple of days. The Australia pace spearhead is reportedly dealing with an illness in the family.
As per reports in Australian media, the 29-year old will spend a couple of days in Sydney with his wife and family before returning to India. He is set to join his teammates in Indore before the third Test begins on March 1.

Pat Cummins is the second member of the Australian team to return home during the series. Last week, leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson had to return home too for the birth of his first child. He was replaced in the squad by Matthew Kuhnemann who went on to make his Test debut in Delhi. Swepson is set to rejoin the Australian camp ahead of the third Test.
Pat Cummins’ Australia lose first two Tests:
Talking about the ongoing series, Australia’s hopes of regaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy came to an end on Sunday after India thrashed them to win the second Test. The hosts won the second Test by 6 wickets to take an unassailable lead in the series.
The win has also helped India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After starting day 3 on 61 for 1, Australia were bowled out for a paltry 113. They lost the remaining 9 wickets for just 48 runs in the first session of the day with Ravindra Jadeja claiming career-best figures of 7-42.

In reply, India chased down the 114-run target with utmost ease. They crossed the finishing line in the 27th over by losing 4 wickets.
