Australia have suffered yet another blow in their ongoing tour of India as their opener David Warner has been been ruled out of the remainder of the four-match Test series. The southpaw is now set to head home as his sojourn in India has come to a premature end.

David Warner was ruled out of the Delhi Test due to concussion after being hit on the helmet by India fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj on the first day of the match. He had also coped a painful blow on his elbow during the innings.

Later, scans had confirmed that the veteran batsman sustained hairline fracture in his elbow which has ruled him out of the last two Tests. He was replaced by Matt Renshaw as a concussion substitute in the second innings.

While David Warner is set to return home soon, he is likely to return to India for the three-match ODI series that gets underway next month, Cricket Australia confirmed.

“David Warner has been ruled out of the Qantas test tour of India and will return home,” CA said in a statement on Tuesday (February 21).

“Warner was struck on the elbow in the second Test in Delhi and sustained a hairline fracture. After further assessment, he will require a period of rehabilitation which will preclude any further involvement in the remainder of the Test series.

“It is currently anticipated that he will return to India for the three One-Day Internationals which follow the Test Series,” added the statement.

David Warner’s exit deepens Australia’s crisis:

David Warner’s exit from the Test series has further depleted Australia’s squad for the ongoing Test series. The visitors have already lost the services of fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for the remainder of the campaign. Fast-bowler Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green are also on the sidelines as they continue their recovery from respective injuries.

All the three players missed the first two Tests as India won both of them to take an unassailable lead in the series. Meanwhile, Mitchell Swepson is set to return to India ahead of the third Test. He had returned home after the first Test for the birth of his first child.
