Australia have suffered yet another blow in their ongoing tour of India as their veteran opener David Warner is set to be ruled out of the ongoing second Test in Delhi due to concussion.

The left-handed batsman faced a barrage of bouncers on the first day of the Test after Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. One of the balls from Mohammed Siraj hit him on head as well as elbow that needed medical attention.

The under-pressure could not last long as Mohammed Shami ended his uncomfortable stay at the crease by making him edge one behind the stumps to the wicketkeeper. David Warner departed after scoring 15 runs and adding 50 runs with Usman Khawaja for the first wicket.

David Warner set to be ruled out:

In the eighth over of the innings, Mohammed Siraj decided to test David Warner by bowling some really well directed short balls at him. And one can say that the veteran batsman had a tough time facing those short balls from the India pacer.

David Warner first took a blow on his glove before being hit on the elbow. Later, Siraj went on to hit him on the head too in the 10th over. The southpaw had to be treated by the physio twice during his short stay at the crease. Later in the day, he did not come out to field after Australia were bowled out for 263.

The 36-year old did not undergo a concussion test despite being hit on the head. And now The Australian’s Peter Lalor has reported that the opener has been ruled out of the Test, with Matthew Renshaw to take his place.

Renshaw was dropped from the playing eleven for the ongoing Test to make room for Travis Head. The left-handed batsman had registered scores of 0 and 2 in the first Test in Nagpur. Renshaw will be desperate to make the chance count in the second innings.

Meanwhile, Team India were on 21 for no loss at stumps on day 1 with skipper Rohit Sharma (13*) and KL Rahul (4*) unbeaten. The hosts are leading the series after winning the first Test and will be keen to extend their winning run. A win in Delhi will help them to not only take an unassailable lead in the four-match series but also retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
