While Virat Kohli gave his fans the joy of seeing him scoring a century in Tests after 1205 days in the recent fourth Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad, his wife Anushka Sharma stirred a storm on social media by posting that the India star batting ‘through sickness’ on Day 4.
Virat Kohli played 364 balls for his 186 runs which had only 15 fours. He had reached his century with only 5 boundaries to his name and had run most of his runs. It was shortly after Kohli had gotten out for 186 that Anushka took to Instagram to caption her story “Playing through sickness with his composure. Inspiring me always.”
Even his batting partner in the 150-plus partnership, Axar Patel was asked after the end of day 4 about Kohli’s illness, and the spin all-rounder said: “I don’t know. The way he was running between the wickets, it didn’t look like he was sick. In such hot weather, he forged a such a great partnership and ran so well. It was fun batting with him.”
The post creates a storm on social media with people worried that something was wrong with Kohli, more so after the former India captain had played a sedate knock en route to his first Test century after three years.
“I Don’t Think He Is Sick”- Rohit Sharma On Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, everyone was ecstatic about Virat Kohli scoring his 28th Test ton which came after 40 months. His wretched runs of form across formats had ended when he came back rejuvenated after a month’s break and scored his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2022 and then scored a bunch of centuries in ODIs against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Even captain Rohit Sharma was asked about Virat Kohli’s illness in the press conference.
He said: “I don’t think he is sick; he was just coughing a little bit, but I don’t think it’s that bad health wise.”
“Regarding Virat, I don’t think there was any monkey on his back. When you’re around a player like that, when you see how they go about their business, you don’t feel that kind of thing going in his head or he’s thinking about anything. He is just thinking about the moment. He wants to put up big performance for the team which he has done in the past so many years, and wants to do that everytime he gets the opportunity to do it for India. I don’t think he is sick; he was just coughing a little bit, but I don’t think it’s that bad health wise,” added Rohit.
