ToggleRavindra Jadeja was on fire in the field in the first ODI between India and Australia as he picked an excellent one-handed catch to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on March 17, 2023.
Steve Smith will captain Australia in place of Pat Cummins in the first of the three ODIs, and Hardik Pandya will skipper India in place of Rohit Sharma, who will be absent due to personal obligations.
Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. Steve Smith announced that David Warner was not healthy enough to play in this game, that keeper Alex Carey had returned home after being ill, and that wicketkeeper Josh Inglis would take over for him.
After replacing KL Rahul as the team’s official vice-captain, Hardik Pandya led his team in his first ODI. Pandya and Steve Smith went out to the field for the toss because Rohit Sharma was absent for the opening ODI.
In a previous press conference on the day of the game, Pandya had already stated that Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will open the innings in place of Rohit.
Ravindra Jadeja Stars After Taking An Amazing One-Handed Catch Of Marnus Labuschagne Off Kuldeep Yadav’s Bowling
India had made early inroads into Australian batting as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Travis Head in the second over of the innings. Hardik Pandya then dismissed the dangerous Steve Smith for 22 and Ravindra Jadeja ended a blistering 65-ball 81-run knock of Mitchell Marsh.
A lot depended on Marnus Labuschagne who was expected to anchor the innings going forward and he looked like settling in for a long knock. But then in the 23rd over, Marnus was set up by Kuldeep’s full-length deliveries, and when the bowler missed one outside off stump, the batter pounced and sliced the ball towards the backward point.
Even though the ball was only in the air for a little period of time, Jadeja was able to dive underneath it and make a spectacular catch.
