Former Indian cricket captain and selector Dilip Vengsarkar was disappointed over Australia’s batting calling it poor and it was disheartening to see Australia’s batting approach against Indian spinners. Despite gaining a lead in the first innings, and a good start in the second innings Australian batter failed to capitalize on the momentum and got dismissed to poor shots.
Many experts criticized Australia batting in the second innings and none of Australia’s batsmen could play India’s spin bowling and fell very cheaply the latest one to join is former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar according to PTI Dilip said
“The unfortunate part is, batting against spinners is an art, and Australians are not used to playing good quality spin. Sweep could be an important part of your game plan but also the margin of error is very small. It is tough to have control over sweep, like the hook shot off pacers. Shockingly the footwork has been poor. The skill level is not there. I don’t see a lot of them stepping out and driving,”
Vengsarkar said that Australian batter’s technique against spinners is very poor and criticized that they are not used to playing quality spinning bowling and also added that the footwork of the batsman is very poor and their skillset needs to be improved
Sometimes You Have To Grind For Runs – Dilip Vengsarkar On Australia Batters Sweeping tactics
The majority of Australian batters including Usman Khawaja, Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith, and Australian skipper Pat Cummins got out while sweeping the ball and Australia was bowled out cheaply for 113 runs.
“They want to reverse sweep these days. Sometimes you have to grind for runs, that aspect of batting you don’t see that much. DRS has also made it tougher for the batters. They are given out lbw even with a full stride on. Everyone wants to play with the ball all the time (and not use the pad),” he said.
Vengsarkar also stressed that the introduction of DRS also made it difficult for the batters to escape some tough calls, as the batters always look to play sweep they should try to grind to make some runs.
